SpeakToIt and Siri
The Short and Sweet

Bothare a version of a personal assistant, albeit an animated computer one on yoursmartphone.
Theyboth understand what you say to varying degrees but can get confused. When unableto understand what you are saying can be explained by known issues with smartphonesare their sound/mic quality. Though being around for years voice recognition isstill in its infancy and improving.
Theyboth do what you ask by finding the information you need or performing thefunction you requested.
Sirihas an upper hand at knowing what you mean. It not only understands what yousay, it’s smart enough to know what you mean. So when you ask “Any good burgerjoints around here?” Siri will reply “I found a number of burger restaurantsnear you.” Then you can say “Hmm. How about tacos?” Siri remembers that youjust asked about restaurants, so it will look for Mexican restaurants in theneighborhood.

SpeakToItis more literal. When asked “What does the weather look like” it proceeds topull up pictures of weather from image sites. Assuming you’re not actuallylooking for images and you’re wondering the forcast the better way to put i
t is“What is the weather forcast” or “What is the weather outside”.

Siri +1
Siribeing built into the phone uses almost all the built-in apps on iPhone 4S butcannot use apps download from the App Store. It writes and sends email messagesand texts. It searches the web for anything you need to know. It plays thesongs you want to hear. It gives you directions and shows you around. It placescalls, schedules meetings, helps you remember, and wakes you up. In fact, askSiri what it can do — it even speaks for itself.
SpeakToItcan use other downloaded apps though is limited in the functions it canperform.  It not only answers questionsbut it can launch apps, and connect with services like Facebook, Twitter,Foursquare, etc. There are also available add-ons including getting horoscopepredictions.
SpeakToItcarries on conversations without having to constantly pressing a button. Withthe addition of an avatar it bring a more personal live feel to your personalassistant.
Siri currently does not offer an avatar and requires the push of a button to speakto it.
Itis available free on the Android Market so you can download it to the Androidphone you own today. Note that SpeakToIt once installed is called”Assistant”.
Siri requires you to buy the new 4S which will set you back a few hundreddollars.
Whether you’re an iPhone user (4S)or Android user you both have the opportunity for an awesome new personal assistant.I must warn you though that paying too much attention to your new found friendmay cause issues with the real life ones you have.
